What Gift of the King does
Digs up rare materials, including Forgehammers and Truegold.
The single best pet for a F2P account. Forgehammers and Truegold are what stall gear progression, and this is a daily source of both.
The Lion is not a fighting pet, but its digs pay for the main march's gear. Gift of the King brings Forgehammers and Truegold that go straight into the rally lead's Mastery Forging, which is why it is the first pet to build as a free player.

What it costs to level
Every figure here is counted out of the full level table, so it is the cumulative Pet Food you spend to reach that level, rather than the cost of the single step.

At level 80 the Lion carries a 21.78% troop attack and defense bonus and 1,568,160 power. That bonus applies whether the skill is on cooldown or not, which is why a pet you never trigger is still worth levelling.
Pet Food cost and the troop bonus are set by the generation, so two pets of the same generation cost exactly the same to raise. Their power and their skill are what differ.
Where it sits in the chain
The Beast Cage unlocks in waves by server day, and most pets also need the previous one at a set level.
- Becomes available on server day 140, once you have Moose level 15.
- Levelling it opens Grizzly Bear on day 140.
Tips worth knowing
- Higher skill levels improve what the dig pulls, so this is the pet to keep feeding past level 30.
- Grizzly Bear is gated behind Lion level 15, which makes the first fifteen levels mandatory anyway.
Mistakes people make
- Skipping days. Every missed dig is a Forgehammer you have to buy somewhere else.
- Feeding the Generation 4 pets before the Lion is deep. They cost 834,625 Pet Food to max and give you nothing back.
