Reading a page
The site is static files served by Cloudflare Pages. Fetching a page sends your IP address, browser and the requested URL to Cloudflare, which is unavoidable for any website and is what keeps the thing online and defended against attacks. Legal basis: legitimate interest, Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR. Cloudflare acts as processor under Art. 28 and may route the request through servers outside the EU under the EU standard contractual clauses.
Analytics, only if you agree
Google Analytics 4 tells me which guides get read and which ones nobody needed. The script loads for every visitor, and whether it collects anything depends on the same consent choice explained under Advertising below.
When it does run, it sets cookies that recognise your browser on a later visit, collects a shortened IP address, and reports pages viewed, rough location, device and referrer. Provider is Google Ireland Limited, and data may reach Google LLC in the United States under the EU standard contractual clauses and the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
Advertising
Ads pay the hosting and the domain. Both the ad script and the Analytics script load for every visitor.
If you are in the EEA, UK or Switzerland, Google's own certified consent tool, Funding Choices, shows one message covering both. Your answer feeds a single signal, Google Consent Mode, that both scripts read. Decline it, or never see it because you are outside those regions, and you still get the full almanac, with ads that are not personalized and Analytics that may not run. Legal basis when you agree: consent, Art. 6 (1) (a) GDPR and ยง 25 (1) TTDSG. You can change your mind anytime through Manage consent in the footer.
You can review and change what Google does with your data at My Ad Center.
Embedded videos
Some guides link a video. Only a thumbnail and a play button are shown, and nothing is requested from YouTube until you click it. Clicking loads the player from youtube-nocookie.com, which sends your IP to Google Ireland Limited and, if you are signed in to Google, lets them attribute the view to your account. Not clicking sends nothing.
Stored in your browser, never sent anywhere
One value lives in your browser's local storage and never leaves the
device: theme, so the site opens in dark or bright the
way you left it. Clearing your browser data removes it. Google's
consent tool keeps a separate record of your choice, under its own
mechanism, not this site's.
Changing your mind
Consent can be withdrawn at any time with effect for the future. Manage consent in the footer reopens Google's message so you can change your answer.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask for access to your data (Art. 15), correction (Art. 16), deletion (Art. 17), restriction (Art. 18), a portable copy (Art. 20), and you can object to processing based on legitimate interest (Art. 21). Email the address above and it gets handled.
You can also complain to a supervisory authority. For this site that is the Berlin Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information.
