Full background story
Amane arrived in the city on the tips of her toes, blinking at a world that had nothing in common with the one she left behind. Her sleeves, wide as sails, caught the corner of a fruit stall before she had gone ten steps, and apples rolled across the cobblestones. "Oops, so sorry about that!" She knelt to gather them herself, pressed a candy into the vendor's hand as if that settled the matter, and left him too startled to argue. The stallholders nearby had never seen anyone apologize with sweets before, and they were still laughing about it when Amane, working her way through the local tongue one broken phrase at a time, tried to ask after the governor's house. A knot of children formed around her before she finished the question, more interested in her pockets than her errand, but happy enough to point the way.
Back home, Olive knew exactly where to find her. "Amane? She's holed up in her room again, poring over those strange symbols." She pushed open the door to find Amane buried in a drift of old books and loose paper, every sheet marked with careful, cramped charms, her hair knotted up in a bun that had given up on itself hours ago. Amane never looked up. "Almost done. Just need to add a few more strokes." The few strokes took the rest of the day. Only when her stomach finally complained, loudly, in the evening, did she abandon the desk to look for food, and on the way to the kitchen she left a freshly inked amulet outside the door of the old woman next door, who had not slept a full night in months.
Amane's people tell of an island far off, where a sacred tree grows at the one point on earth closest to the sky. Its wood is said to hold the power to call the dying back. Generations of shrine maidens have given their whole lives to the search, hoping to bring back even a splinter of it and turn it into an amulet that could shield the living from war, sickness, and ruin alike. No one has found the tree in hundreds of years. By now it survives only as a story told to children.
But Amane remembers the day an old deacon pressed a different kind of amulet into a dying man's palm, and watched a wound that should have killed him begin to close. His breath steadied. Something unseen seemed to plant itself between him and death and simply refuse to move. "He's saved! He's awake! Unbelievable!" the crowd cried out, and the deacon, saying nothing, waved the others forward to see to the man himself. He looked hollowed out, as though the amulet had drawn its power from his own body rather than the paper. It was then that young Amane came forward, too shy to meet his eyes, holding out an amulet of her own, the characters on it uneven and childish, plainly the work of a beginner. "Sorry. I don't think I did a very good job." The deacon took it from her anyway, both hands, careful as if it might break. "Child, this amulet is the best in the world, as long as the heart behind it is sincere."

Frequently asked questions
Does Amane's kit match her healer lore?
Partly, Exorcism raises Infirmary Healing Speed and Sakura Blossom is framed as a protective enchantment, echoing her amulet-maker story, but nothing in her kit heals HP directly in combat.
