Recruitment Keys are the pull currency for Hero Recruitment, and holding them until the right banner is running is worth more than any individual pull.

It depends

Every hero pull in Kingshot runs on Recruitment Keys, and unlike most currencies there is nothing forcing you to spend them. They do not expire, they do not cap, and the banner they go into changes. That combination makes a key worth whatever the current banner offers, which can be a lot or almost nothing.

Keys trickle in from daily missions, alliance activity, terror kills and event milestones, so a patient player always has a few hundred stored. The mistake is treating that stockpile as something to use. It is something to aim.

The best moment to pull is when two things line up: a banner featuring a hero you have already decided to build, and an event that scores recruitment. Then every key pays out the hero shards you wanted and the event points on top.

Save it or spend it?

Situational. Keys are only worth what the current banner offers, so their value swings entirely on timing.

When to spend it, by server age

Early game

Early banners feature early heroes, most of which you will replace within weeks. Pull enough to field a working march, then stop and let the keys build. There is no reward for pulling fast.

Mid game

Once you know your main march, keys go into the banner that helps it and nowhere else. Watch the event calendar for recruitment scoring phases and hold everything until one is running.

Late game

Late game keys are almost purely an event resource. A new generation banner combined with a recruitment scoring window is the only time I open the recruitment screen, and I spend the whole stockpile in that window.

Tips worth knowing

Pulling during an event that scores recruitment gets you the hero and the event points from the same spend.
If the current banner holds nothing you want, keys keep indefinitely. There is no decay pressure.

Mistakes people make

Pulling the moment you have enough keys, purely out of curiosity.
Spending keys outside an event window when a scoring event was days away.
