Kingshot Hero Shard

Hero Shards ascend heroes to higher star tiers, and where you spend them is the single most consequential long-term decision in Kingshot.

Hoard it

Ascension is how a hero goes from good to carrying your account, and Hero Shards are the only currency for it. Every star tier needs a fixed number of shards for that specific hero, and until the tier is complete the shards you have put in do nothing at all. That makes shards the least forgiving item in the game: a plan finishes, an impulse just leaks.

Shards come from many places, recruitment pulls, event shops, Alliance Championship, daily shop rotations, Hero Roulette, and every one of those sources hands you shards for heroes you did not choose. The whole skill is refusing to spend them on the hero you happen to have shards for, and instead building the hero you decided on.

The decision itself is mostly about generation timing. A maxed hero from the generation your server is on beats a half-built hero from the next one, and a hero from two generations back is a sunk cost no matter how many shards you own.

Save it or spend it?

Hoard them. Shards spent on a hero that a newer generation replaces are simply gone.

Hold it for:

  • Kingdom of Power (KvK)
  • Hero growth and ascension scoring events
  • A confirmed new generation you have decided to build

Where to get Hero Shard

  • Hero Recruitment pulls
  • Event shops and milestone rewards
  • Alliance Championship and Alliance Brawl
  • Daily shop rotations, including Mythic General shards for coins
  • Hero Roulette

What to spend it on

  • Ascending the heroes in your main march
  • Rally leads and bear leads before anyone else

How much you need

Know the full ascension cost of your target star tier before you spend the first shard. Partial ascension gives you nothing until the tier completes.

When to spend it, by server age

Early game

Pick your first march before you spend a single shard. Early generations rotate out quickly, so keep the ascension shallow and put the shards into your rally lead and bear lead first.

Mid game

This is where most accounts are decided. By the third or fourth generation you know your main march; every shard goes into those heroes and nowhere else. Save them for a hero growth or ascension scoring event whenever one is close.

Late game

With the march settled, shards are about depth, pushing the same three or four heroes to their final tiers. The daily Mythic General shards are worth buying every day now, as long as the hero you are building is eligible for them.

Tips worth knowing

  • Buy the two daily Mythic General Hero Shards when you are actively building an eligible non-exclusive Mythic hero, and skip them when you are not.
  • Generation timing matters more than raw hero quality. A maxed current-generation hero beats a half-built future one.
  • Decide your march before you spend. Shards follow a plan or they follow regret.

Mistakes people make

  • Spreading shards across many heroes so that none reaches a meaningful tier.
  • Investing in a generation that is about to be superseded on your server.
  • Spending general shards on a hero you only intend to bench.

Frequently asked questions

How many Hero Shards do I need to ascend a hero?

It depends on the hero and the star tier, and the game shows the exact count in the ascension screen. Check the full cost of the tier before you put the first shard in, because partial progress unlocks nothing.

Should I use shards on a hero from an older generation?

Only if that hero still leads your main march. Shards on a hero a newer generation replaces are gone for good.

Are the daily Mythic General shards worth it?

Yes, when you are actively ascending an eligible non-exclusive Mythic hero. Otherwise skip them and keep the coins.

Should I save Hero Shard or use it?

Hoard them. Shards spent on a hero that a newer generation replaces are simply gone.

Where do you get Hero Shard in Kingshot?
