Full background story
Zoe doesn't say what she feels. She wears it, in her hair. Amadeus, who's known her the longest, says it's been that way since she was a girl: black when she's coiled up and patient, waiting for the moment to strike, yellow when the hunt is already on and the thrill of it has her lit up from the inside. When that color turns, she gives herself over to it completely, every fiber of her pulled toward whatever she's chasing, until she's caught it and pulled it apart with her bare hands if that's what it takes.
She's no knight, no elegant markswoman standing back from the fight. Zoe was raised the same way Amadeus was, an adopted child of the Unjust League, and she was born with strength most people never get near. She throws herself at the front line every time, and she doesn't just endure the wounds she takes there, she seems to feed on them, on the raw contact of a real fight with real stakes. She is not gentle in how she wins, and she doesn't pretend to be. Being called a villain has never once made her hesitate. To Zoe, winning is the whole point, and honor is a luxury she was never handed in the first place.
She grew up in the suburbs north of Noxholm, on the ragged edge where the town gives way to forest and the people who live there have nothing much left to lose. Even out there, nobody was spared: taxes that bled the poor dry, nobles who tormented commoners simply because it amused them, fanatical cults working their way through the district looking for converts. Zoe watched people betray each other over and over, neighbors, strangers, even their own families, because the nobility had already decided the poor didn't count for much, and the poor themselves had learned to pay almost any price just to see another day through. Growing up inside that taught her exactly one lesson worth keeping: get strong enough that nobody gets to decide your fate for you, strong enough that one day she could tear down everything standing against what she believes in.
Around the Adventurers' Camp she's something of a legend for all the wrong reasons, brawling in taverns, running underhanded plays to steal bounty jobs out from under other hunters, generally causing more trouble than anyone else on the roster. Mothers in town invoke her name to get unruly children to behave. And yet, somehow, alongside all of that, she's genuinely respected. She's taken home "Best Vanguard Captain" more than once at the camp, "Best Adventure Companion" too, and she even turned up as the lead in a romance novel by the bestselling author Smith. His book, Fluttering Heart, has a line in it that people who admire Zoe like to repeat: "The lady is like a rainbow. You only believe such beauty exists once you've actually seen it."

Best pairings
- Pairs with Jabel in the F2P Gen 2 lineup: Shield Strike's damage-taken debuff stacks on whoever Jabel has pinned.
- From Gen 3-5, both Zoe and Jaeger amplify enemy damage taken, doing the same job from opposite ends of the lineup.
- Rosa's debuff-strip and healing-cut from Gen 4 protects Zoe's ability to keep landing Shield Strike and Agony Rush without being neutralized.

Frequently asked questions
Is Zoe worth building?
Yes, the best F2P frontline and garrison hero, relevant deep into Gen 5, and a staple of the F2P Arena backline from Gen 2 on.
What's the 40% HP heal the tier list mentions?
Agony Rush at max rank, restores 20-40% of max Health once per battle when she drops below half HP.
Should Zoe go frontline or backline?
Backline. Putting her up front is a common mistake, she takes too much damage there and is built for backline sustain via Holy Might and Agony Rush.
